Emily Furman MSW, MST, LCSW, LICSW
Psychotherapist & Consultant

I came to therapy as a client and became passionate about the benefits of therapy because of the changes I experienced in my own life. I am a fellow traveler along the path to healing who knows suffering. It is a great honor to help people reduce unnecessary suffering and improve pleasure, wellness, and ease in their lives. Learning about ourselves is a life-long process as we are constantly exposed to new experiences.

I am licensed by the state of New York as Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW license #: 092225) and Vermont as Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW license #: 089.0134529). My work with clients is eclectic and is informed by the following practice approaches: strengths-based, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and relational psychotherapy. Additionally, I have received specific training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT), Somatic/Experiential Approaches to the Treatment of Developmental Trauma, and Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST). These therapies have their roots in emotional, body-based, and experiential approaches as well as neuroscience and attachment theory. Before entering private practice, I worked in community mental health, where I provided therapy to children and adults, individuals, couples, families and groups. I was also the mental health provider at a county jail. I am an experienced group therapy facilitator.

I provide therapy for:

  • Couples

  • Families

  • Groups

  • Individuals

I work with adults, adolescents, and children. In instances where I work with children, I will also meet regularly with the parents and/or caregivers.

I also offer organizational consulting and forensic mental health services.

Your personal growth depends on your relationship remaining safe and secure at all times, because if either of you feel the least bit unsafe, untrusting, or insecure, you won’t have the internal resources for personal growth. Instead, your mind and body will be preoccupied by doubt and threat.
