Emily Furman MSW, MST, LCSW
Psychotherapist

I came to therapy as a client and became passionate about the benefits of therapy because of the changes I experienced in my own life.  I am a fellow traveller along the path to healing who knows suffering. It is a great honor to help people reduce unnecessary suffering and improve pleasure, wellness, and ease in their lives. Learning about ourselves is a life-long process as we are constantly exposed to new experiences.

I am a curious learner, and a dedicated student. I regularly attend trainings and receive master-therapist level supervision to support my continued growth as a clinician.

I am licensed by the state of New York as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW license #: 092225) and the state of Vermont as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW license #: 089.0134529). I attended the University at Albany and graduated in 2018 with a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree. I provide psychotherapy services to individual adults and children, couples, groups and families. My work with clients is eclectic and is informed by the following practice approaches: strengths-based, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and relational psychotherapy. Additionally, I have received specific training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT), Somatic/Experiential Approaches to the Treatment of Developmental Trauma, and Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST). These therapies have their roots in emotional, body-based, and experiential approaches as well as neuroscience and attachment theory. Before entering private practice, I worked in community mental health, where I provided therapy to children and adults, individuals, couples, families and groups. I was also the mental health provider at a county jail. I am an experienced group therapy facilitator.

I attended Plattsburgh State University and graduated in 2005 with a Master’s of Science in Teaching (MST) Science. I worked for many years in public and private school settings with children and families.  I taught parent-child groups in a school-setting and also privately in a wilderness setting. I was an early childhood teacher and a high school chemistry and physics teacher as well.  I have worked in outdoor education, homeschooling, at children’s summer camps and as a college tutor. I was formerly certified EMT and Wilderness First Responder.

I understand the human condition from a very diverse range of experiences, degrees and trainings. I believe people’s suffering and I believe that people can learn, grow and live with greater ease and pleasure.

I look forward to working with you!
